Why Go on a Tour of Munich
The world’s capital of beer and the magnificent capital of Bavaria, Munich is famed for being the home of the annual festival Oktoberfest and the renowned BMW concern.
However, apart from beer and expensive cars, the city definitely has a lot more in store to be visited and loved for. Getting to Munich, you immediately immerse into the friendly and cheerful atmosphere of this southern German city which mesmerizes by the grandeur of its majestic cathedrals with bell towers and huge squares, surrounded by old houses with ornate facades and lovely flower baskets on the windows.
Set on the banks of the Isar River at the foothills of the Alps, Munich was founded by Benedictine monks and boasts more than a 1000-year history. A traditional starting point for a Munich walking tour is the central square, Marienplatz, housing such landmark buildings as the Gothic New and Old Town Halls.
Other highlights include the historic market Viktualienmarkt, the largest cathedral and building in Munich, Frauenkirche, the main city’s shopping artery, Kaufingerstrasse, and a lot more interesting locations and museums all at hand.
In addition, there are two breathtaking palaces within the city: the Baroque Nymphenburg Palace, often referred to as the “Bavarian Versailles” or “Castle of the Nymph” and Blutenburg Castle, the old hunting lodge, hiding a lot of stories and mysteries.
In case you are tired of numerous cultural and architectural gems of Munich, you may simply spend an hour or two laying on the emerald lawn of the English Garten or drop by some local bar to taste the Munich vibe with a mug of authentic Munich beer sided with traditional German dishes. The choice is always yours!
