Why Go on a Tour of Rothenburg
Rothenburg is the medieval treasure of Germany you can not miss the chance to see. Exceptional in its historical heritage and authentic architecture, this charming Bavarian city is like no other in the country. There are, however, some places bearing the same name, so make sure to visit the Rothenburg ob der Tauber, the one by the Tauber River. It is impossible to resist the charm of its picturesque half-timbered houses and the ambiance of the old town, as if taking you back in time several centuries.
Don't forget to visit Marktplatz while in the area and make your way down the cobbled streets to find the Rothenburg Town Hall, dating back to the 13th century. It is not only a monument of intertwining Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles but also a great place to take a better look at the city itself, as you can climb up to its tower. It is not that easy to do that, though, as you have to conquer 220 narrow steps, but the view from up above is undoubtedly worth it.
Another thing worth adding to your Rothenburg itinerary is the little yellow half-timbered house with a fountain in front of it, called Plonlein, which has successfully become one of the most photographed places in the area. What is more, check out the St. Jacob's Church and explore the Rothenburg City Walls and Gates to take in the beauty of this postcard-like landscape.
After seeing the exterior of the city, dive into the museum scene of the place by adding the Medieval Crime and Justice Museum and German Christmas Museum to your Rothenburg tour. You would think that's all there is to explore, but the best part has yet left unrevealed! For those with a sweet tooth, the place has something special to offer as one of the most famous delicacies specific of the area is the Schneeball, a deep-fried ball of pastry covered in confectioners' sugar.
Don't hesitate to explore the bustling cobbled streets of Rothenburg yourself, along with its one-of-a-kind old town and other major attractions which are going to leave you wanting more for sure. Who knows, maybe you'd even wish to come back for a second visit?
