Why Visit Frogner Park

Have you already heard about the most famous and beloved sculptor in Norway, Gustav Vigeland? If not, you will soon fall for his simple but utterly touching sculptures. After visiting other Oslo attractions during the day, spend a calm afternoon in Frogner Park.

Being the largest park in Oslo, Frogner offers plenty for you to discover. The historic area houses numerous art monuments, architectural works, a museum complex, a sports stadium, squares and landscaped lawn grounds for relaxing during the summer months.

Such a variety of attractions has been formed over the centuries due to the influence of different eras on the social significance of the park. The name of the Frogner Park derives from the old manor, which was built in 1750 and belonged to various owners in its entire history, up to 1896.

The main feature of this destination is that the park is home to more than 200 touching sculptures, created by Gustav Vigeland. All the sculptures are thematically integrated and have a human and a circle of life as the core motive so prepare yourself for a moment of reflection.

The biggest and most famous monument is called “Monolith” which demonstrates the unity of people, striving towards the goal together. Moreover, when in the park, you might notice the impressive amount of roses. In fact, the park holds Norway’s largest collection of roses, with more than 150 different species!

Apart from the sightseeing tour, Frogner Park offers some more things to see and do.

For instance, the park includes the city’s main skating arena, several tennis courts and, in whole, it is a perfect place to have a relaxing stroll in the peaceful ambiance, thus enriching your Oslo travel itinerary!
