Why Visit Helsinki Cathedral

If you plan a trip to the Finnish capital, you definitely should add the gorgeous Helsinki Cathedral to your travel itinerary. Gloriously rising above the Senate Square in the historic center of the city, the striking Cathedral is seen almost from every corner of Helsinki.

Built on the plan of a Greek cross, all sides of Helsinki Cathedral are symmetrical. The majestic white Neoclassical building, crowned with green domes, was designed by Carl Ludwig Engel and completely finished by 1852.

This Evangelical Lutheran Cathedral is still used for religious events and services. It is one of Helsinki's most popular attractions and is a significant landmark of the city.

If you want to explore the inside interiors of the edifice, the good news is that the Cathedral is open for public visits during most of the day.

While you are there, explore to the crypt that was renovated in the 1980s, as now holds interesting exhibitions and a souvenir shop. All in all, Helsinki Cathedral can easily be reached by public transport but it is better been explored during a peaceful stroll around Helsinki Old Town.
